Chapter 1
Secrets revealed
I watch everything that happens here. Far away lands, great challenges for humanity, because these days that we live are hard, sometimes joyful, but we all had to do our part: take care of those who forced us to serve them and fully comply with their requests according to their whims.
My name is Rut, the one from Fourth Street in the great black neighborhood. I have a guardian who is always next to me. I would say that he is my greatest protector and helper, not because he is the strongest or the most beautiful, no, it is because no matter what happens, he never leaves me alone and that, that is everything for me. His name is Tursis Jr, he is small but with a giant heart. On several occasions I get very upset with him, because he always wants to surprise me with his scientific inventions. When he shows them to me, I always end up getting a bad science disaster from him. That is my Tursi, my great friend.
For as long as I can remember, I have always known that this place is my home. I don't know who my parents are and I don't know if I have siblings either, but what I do know is that everyone in this place loves me. When they need my help, I am here for each one of them, because they are my family and I don't know another one.
Ruth is inside his house repairing the sewing machine for his neighbor, with skill and ease she does a great job, welding the artifice. In the background you can hear the record player on with his favorite music with a loud volume. When she finishes repairing her main target, she takes off his goggles and turning off the welding machine, she thinks:
“it’s done”
And checking the solder, she noticed that she had done a good job and excited she screamed:
"Yes, I am the best!"
Suddenly he hears the music and says:
"Now comes my favorite part"
She sings it out loud and dances being a white, blond woman with green eyes. She looked extremely beautiful. There was no girl like her in the whole region. When she finished singing, in one of the rooms a great explosion is heard as if it were a great engine trying to ignite other strange explosions. Ruth ran into the room saying:
"Tursi, Tursi, are you okay?"
Observing the door and frightened by her friend, she hurriedly opened it and found herself face to face with the machine. She asked him more calmly:
"Are you OK my friend?"
Tursi looks at Ruth with a happy expression and says:
"Your great friend Tursi is fine, can't you see? Can't you hear? I have achieved what I have always dreamed of achieving, my great scientific invention. Now come, I will show you something."
Tursi took Ruth by the hand and led her to the place where he thought that cake balls could come out, already prepared and ready to eat, since he had in their respective containers the ingredients that were needed to create her cake balls. They both stared at the tube the round cakes were supposed to come out of, waiting for his first cake to appear. Suddenly they saw the first one coming out, Tursi took it, gave it to Ruth and said:
"I've done it! Everyone will try my great cake recipe."
Ruth was suspiciously looking at the cake when Tursi continued to tell her:
"Aren't you going to pass it? Give it a try! Try it!"
But Ruth said:
"Okay, okay, but just a little bit, okay?"
"Yes" Tursi replied.
When Ruth tasted it, it dissolved in her hands like water. Tursi saw what happened and asked in alarm:
"Ohh nooo! What happened? Everything was going very well ..."
He turned to Ruth and said:
"It was you, you always say that my inventions are dumbs and complicated ... You did something to my cake to make that happen to it. What did you do to it? Tell me! What did you do to it?"
He looked Ruth's eyes angrily and she replied:
"It wasn't me, it was the cake that fell apart by itself"
Tursi sad for what happened, lowered her head crying. Ruth knew he needed a hug, so she came over to comfort him and said:
"Don't worry my friend, one day you're going to make it and we'll see it together, okay?"
At the moment when they hug each other stronger, the machine begins to give danger signals. Ruth and Tursi despair looking for a solution. But any attempt was in vain, as the uncontrolled machine shot the cake balls at high speed throughout the room. In such a way that they ended up getting hit by the cake balls.
Now Ruth angrily said to Tursi:
"I knew! I knew! I'm always the one affected. Look how I am now because of you."
Tursi replied:
"Help me to turn of this machine or there will be a total disaster in this place"
Cake balls were flying all over the room. Ruth saw a metal bar in the corner of the room and took a piece of wood as a shield, she went to the part where the motor was located and with all his strength she hit the machine. When Tursi saw what she was doing, he said:
"Nooo, no, dont’t do that"
However, Ruth kept hitting and hitting harder and harder, until he managed to shut down the machine by destroying it.
"It is done!" Ruth said exhausted.
Tursi sad on his knees, he looked at her and said:
"You just destroyed my dreams."
Then Ruth walked to where he was and knelt next to him, hugged him and gave him a kiss on her cheek saying:
"Even if your inventions fail many times, make you sad and I always get hurt, I do not care. Whatever happens I will love you and you will always be my best friend."
Tursi stopped crying and gave Ruth a smile saying:
"Even if my inventions don't bear fruit and sometimes they get out of control, will you still love me the same?"
Ruth nodded and Tursi continued saying:
"Well come. I'll show you what I never thought to show you because I was afraid you would reject it."
Taking Ruth by the hand, he rushes her to the back of the house. When they reach the center of the patio, he show her his great secret, an innovative invention of liquid black clay. She was in a well hidden by Tursi, because knowing that this dark mud liquid possessed great power, he kept it very carefully since he did not want it to hurt anyone. This dark mud transmits a power that generates changes according to the desire in the imagination of its possessor. It is so powerful and falling into the wrong hands would be a great danger to all of humanity.
Ruth surprised by what she was seeing, she wanted to touch it but Tursi yelled loudly:
"Do not touch it!"
However, she managed to touch it a little, for which a glow of light was created that lasted a few seconds and then she saw herself again with her hand extended to touch the black liquid, being interrupted by Tursi who with a great shout repeated her :
"Nooo, don't touch it!"
Tursi took her by the hand quickly, causing Ruth to lose her balance and fall to the ground. Ruth looked at him confused and said:
"What's wrong with you? Why is there so much fuss?"
"Friend, I don't know what would have happened if you had touched it. It is not ready yet, it is dangerous. When I finish it it will be even more so, but at least it will be ready for you and me to use it to stop the evil Kings of Darkness . "
Ruth observed her friend hide the well with a special cloak that prevented access to any intruder, regardless of whether he knew where the hole was. She stared up at the sky thinking how confused this whole situation about the well had been. When they finished hiding the hole, they returned home and Ruth told Tursi who was coming after her:
"Tursi, we have been alone for many years without having any problems. Why do you think we are going to need that black mud thing? Is there something I should know?"
Tursi being pierced by Ruth's fixed gaze, he replied:
"No, dont’t worry about that. You just know what the kings of darkness are like and as I always say: It is better to be safe than sorry, right?"
Ruth answers:
"And since when do you speak that way?"
They both smiled at each other, they didn't stop laughing as they went back inside the house.
Sadness that invades
Tursi and Ruth were hungry, so they decided to take a shower. Several minutes later, noises were heard from outside as if someone was fighting. The noises were of horses and weapons like those used in wars. When they heard this, they both shot out of their bathrooms. They looked out the window without anyone seeing them, they were amazed to see the warriors next to the kings of darkness, known to oppress people. Many of them, especially boys and girls, were taken as slaves in their houses and palaces.
They were both very saddened when they saw what was happening. They watched the warriors retreat as they left behind injured people, fathers and mothers crying for their children. Ruth covered her eyes with her hands and Tursi was looking at her without knowing what to say, when suddenly she runs to her room. Without saying anything, Ruth dressed in pink spandex pants and a tight shirt. She looked at herself in the mirror and imagined what it would be like if she had parents who cared about her. In addition, she imagined that she was at home with her parents and she heard a voice in the distance saying to her:
"Ruth, dinner is ready"
She was thinking it was her mother's voice, so she replies:
"Yes, mom I'm going now, I'm finishing my hair"
Still in her illusion, she again hears her voice telling her:
"Ruth, come here, the food is getting cold"
She recognized the voice of her friend Tursi, she smiled to herself and hurried to the kitchen. Upon entering her, Tursi looks at her and says:
"Wow, what happened to you? Where are you going so dressed up?"
Ruth walks up to him and hugs him while she tells him:
"I'm going to a special place to have dinner with my best friend"
They sat together at the table and thanked the Lord for the food. While they ate, they listened to a beautiful instrumental music in the background that is always conducted by strange little animals, they seem experts in all kinds of music and instruments and obey their masters when they are ordered a specific song. Ruth amazed by the taste of the food, she tells her friend:
"Mmmmm. The food is delicious."
"Thank you madam, everything was made especially for you"
Ruth smiles at him gratefully, they continue to enjoy dinner until they had the last bite and they both said goodbye to go to their rooms. Tursi leafs through the book that she always has on her
her head, while she touches the button that turns on small motors that have small propellers with which she lies fresh in the room.
On the other hand, Ruth in her room played with cards on her bed, ignoring that through them she was being observed by people who wanted to rescue her. However, these still could not reach Ruth because they were so far away from her. Although through the decks the army of the Lost Book could feel reassured that she was safe with her friend Tursi jr, they were certain that at any moment they would find her.
As Ruth continued to play with her decks, the Lost Book Leader watched her saying to himself:
"We will arrive soon but there are still many things to do. Be strong and resist. I know you can"
Suddenly, someone enters the room of the Leader of the lost Book, he is hiding the decks he asks:
"Who is it and what do you want? I'm busy"
Hearing the question, the one who had just entered the room rushed to answer saying:
"It's me, Permon."
"Tell me Permon, is something wrong? I'm just busy."
"Sir I think you should see something that may interest you."
"What is it? "
The Leader of the Lost Book looked at Permon and gestured for him to show him what this was all about. Permon signals for him to follow. They both walked towards a ship that seemed abandoned and showed a large army approaching against them. Understanding both that this was the army of the kings of darkness, Permon asks the Leader:
"Lord what are we going to do, shall we fight?"
The Leader replies:
"No. We are not ready yet for a battle of this size. If we fight now, they will finish us off."
Permon confused asks him:
"So what will we do?
The Leader, pointing to the great army, replies:
"If we go north, we can flee very easily. As you can see they all come from the south only. This way no one would have to die. We will need the chosen one to face this battle."
He delegated the order to withdraw everyone to the north in search of some refuge. They were going to find the place where the Chosen of the Lost Book was.
The beginning of the prophecies
The next day, Ruth woke up angry in the morning because someone was listening to loud music. When she left her room, she realized that the music was coming from the living room of her own house. Upon entering her, she saw her friend Tursi dancing to the beat of the song and her anger disappeared. Ruth begins to laugh and Tursi stops dancing asking her:
"What's wrong my friend? What are you laughing at?"
"Ohh Tursi, ohh Tursi. You dance horrible."
After saying this, Ruth begins to dance imitating Tursi. She stares and after a few seconds Tursi laughs really hard. She stops and asks him:
"Now you, what are you laughing so much about?"
"I'm laughing because you're dancing awful."
"Ahh yeah? That's what I was laughing at, because that's how I saw you dance and to top it off, you're not ashamed."
Tursi annoyed by what happened, ordered to turn off the radio and seriously said:
"Get ready because today we will have to go to town to buy the things we need for the house."
Ruth still smiling, asks him:
"But come on Tursi, come and dance with me. Don't you want to dance anymore?"
Tursi:
"Come on, it's getting late, insolent girl."
Ruth noticed that Tursi looked somewhat inflexible and tried to continue with the dance, but he without paying attention to her, walked to where his book was and while he was putting it on his head as usual, he took his two baskets and saw that Ruth was not prepared yet. Trying to improve it, he tells her.
"Come on, babe. Hurry up."
Ruth, seeing her plight, answers him while she goes to her room:
"I'm coming, Let me put my tennis shoes on."
After several seconds, Tursi says again:
"There is Ruth advancing that we have to ..."
He hadn't finished complaining when Ruth returned from her room. Tursi exclaimed:
"Wow, my friend, you surprise me. Your tennis shoes are beautiful. How did you make them?"
Ruth replies with a bit of mischief:
"I can't tell you all my secrets, but there is something you can know, I have many more and of all kinds for wherever I go."
"Wow, friend, you surprise me." Tursi replied in amazement.
Ruth, somewhat blushing, continues saying:
"All this inventing things is thanks to you. That is why I am going to baptize these tennis shoes with the names of your brothers."
"Are you going to call them Diamond and Will?
"Yes. I'm going to call them like your brothers that you remember so much."
Tursi tells her:
"You know what? Taking a good look at them, I want you to make some especially for me. Can you?"
Ruth:
"Of course, it will be my pleasure, my friend."
Ruth pauses and smiling asks Tursi:
"Tursi, weren't we supposed to go to the market?"
Tursi smiled and told her:
"Yes it's true, let's go."
On the way to the market, as they walked, most of the people greeted them. Tursi looked like the governor, receiving greetings everywhere they went. As this was happening, Ruth was smiling at all the show her friend was putting on.
When they got to the village, they saw many people going from side to side shopping. The black market was huge, it's the kind of place where, if you can't find what you're looking for, it's because it doesn't exist. After taking a look at the surroundings, they continued walking together until Tursi spotted the electronics salesman the distance. He was easy to find because he was a very fat man, who was always accompanied by his wife who was very skinny. Tursi told her friend Ruth:
"Friend, I need to stop here, I have to buy some parts to repair what you destroyed."
Hearing what Tursi said, Ruth smiled and replied:
"Okay, go. I'll go get the food and what I need to do your tennis shoes"
Tursi:
"Okay, but don't take too long. I'll wait for you here."
When Ruth left, Tursi told the seller what parts he needed. On the other hand, Ruth was on her way to the food market. As she walked, she saw many of the salespeople arguing with their customers as they tried to haggle over prices without success. She could only heard: "Please sell me this at a lower cost", "I can't afford all that", "I don't have that much money, have mercy." But that did not change anything, the sellers only repeated the same and the same:
"I do not set the prices. The prices were set by the kings of darkness. They cannot be changed without authorization."
Ruth noted that those who begged for food were beggars, the poorest in town. She turned her head to no longer see the sad sight, but as she did so, she saw in the distance great bands of evil guardians who went on horseback and chariot. They came at full speed between the main streets next to the town market. Faced with all these horrendous images, Ruth suffers a slight nervous breakdown and she closes her eyes in shock as she says to herself:
"No. No more, no more, please."
Ruth was trying to calm down, when a man with white hair and dirty clothes, torn and barefoot, approached her and told her:
"Help us. Miss, help us. We don't have anyone to help us."
Ruth, barely recovering, asks him:
"What can i help you?"
"We need you to save us. Save us. Save us",
Ruth gave her a half smile and with some nervousness and confused by the request of that stranger, she replied:
“.. what? Save you from what? Wow! I don't know how I could save you, I'm just a normal girl "
At Ruth's response, the white-haired man asked:
"Miss, can I hold your hand for a moment? I want to show you something."
Ruth, with some uncertainty, extended her hand. When the man took her, she had strange visions, she heard her own voice that said:
"From now, you will meet yourself and you will know who you really are."
She had not finished speaking, when Ruth heard all the people say to her:
"Save us. Save us."
Coming to herself, she realized that the white-haired man was staring at her and still without understanding, she asked him with some confusion:
"What was all this that happened to me? I don't understand what happened."
"I repeat, from now, you will know who you really are."
That man got up from where he was sitting, when she saw that he didn't have shoes, she took off her shoes to give them to her. The white-haired man hastened to tell her:
"No. Don't do it. Those are yours and you should have them. Through them you will do a lot of good. For my part, don't worry. I am that way and nothing has ever happened to me."
Ruth dismayed at the condition of this man, she told him:
"Please tell me, how can I help you?"
The white-haired man looked at her and smiled at her. Seeing that Ruth was still waiting for an answer, he replied:
"You've already helped me and you're just starting out."
Ruth saw the man leave and stopped him:
"Wait, don't go, where are you going?"
The man, without stopping walking, replied:
"I have to go. I've done my job here. There's another place I need to be. Thank you."
Without Ruth being able to do anything, this man mingled with the crowd, losing sight of him. And she was lost in her thoughts for everything she had experienced, she was surprised by Tursi when he took her hand by surprise, asking her:
"Friend, where were you?"
Ruth gave a slight cry and withdrew her hand from Tursi's hand, replying:
"Ahh! Tursi! You scared me."
Tursi laughed and with a joking grimace said:
"Am I so ugly that even getting close scared you? Tell me, how ugly am I?"
Ruth replied after a sigh:
"No my friend, what happens is that you have no idea what happened a few minutes ago"
Tursi:
"What happened?"
Ruth:
"Nothing. It doesn't matter."
Tursi:
"Doesn't matter? But you're scared."
Ruth, seeing that her friend Tursi did not give up so easily, smiled at him and took him hand saying:
"Don't worry, let's finish the shopping and talk about this later."
Both continued with their shopping, they arrived at the store of a lady who, despite not being very beautiful, she was glad to see Ruth. Without a word, she approached the girl and giving her a big hug that almost left Ruth breathless, she says:
"My beautiful girl. My future doughter-in-law! How are you?"
When she released her, Ruth replied:
"What ...? Future what? What are you talking about ma'am?"
"You know, my son is beautiful. He is in love with you. You have to see how he dressed today. He knew you would come. Let me call him."
Tursi with a little smile, whispered into Ruth's ear:
"I think you already have a beau."
Ruth hit him with her elbow and replied annoyed:
"What are you talking about? Don't even mean it as a joke."
Tursi seeing the way she looked at him, she asks him:
"That?"
Suddenly Ruth approaches her ear and says:
"Only you are my heartthrob, so defend me, did you hear?"
Tursi jr nods his head and they both see the ugly lady coming with her handsome son. When they approached them, Tursi couldn't hold back laughing. The ugly lady, ignoring Tursi jr, says to Ruth:
"Here is your future man!"
Ruth looked at him and was a bit surprised, because he looked like a big and strong man but his face and especially his voice were really funny.
"Hello my name is Tuca, but some are called tocastle"
After saying this, the gallant began to laugh at his own joke. Ruth without giving it importance, replied with courtesy:
"Hello. How are you? My name is Ruth and this is my friend Tursi."
Tuca completely ignored Tursi, who wasn't paying attention to him anyway.
"Fine. I'm fine. How can I help you today?"
"I need 20 feet of the skin that I bought from your mom last time, plus I need the basic portion for consumption of two and several pounds of suckling pig."
“Anything else?"
Tursi wanting something more for himself, he addressed Tuca saying:
"One more thing".
But even though Tursi spoke directly to him, Tuca blatantly ignored him again and continued to ask Ruth:
"Nothing else, Ruth?"
Tursi, noticing that Tuca was ignoring him, got angry and said:
"Hey, strong man with a silly face and voice, can't you see I'm talking to you?"
Tuca replied:
"Ohh, excuse me. I didn't know that pets talked. Do you need anything?"
"if I do wish for something. I wish that your body be like your mind and voice, because what you have now really pity me."
When Tuca's mother listened to Tursi, she was very enraged. Tuca saw his mother in a rage approaching Tursi to hit him. Ruth, seeing her intentions, stood in the middle of them and, staring at them, she told them:
"Enough! If you guys want to fight like barbarians, do it, but somewhere else and another time. Have respect, so both of you stay calm Okay?"
Seeing the way Ruth looked at them, both of them answered at the same time:
"Okay, but I'm only doing it for you."
Ruth smiled and parted from them to take the last things she needed. Tursi approached to help her load the purchases and when they were outside the store, they heard Tuca in the distance shouting as he approached them. As he was not understood, Ruth stood in front of Tursi, as he thought that Tuca was still angry. When he arrived, they understood what he was saying.
"Wait. Wait a minute. I think you guys need help. I have a float that you can use, return it to me later."
He had not finished speaking, when Tursi was already answering:
"Don't bother. I can handle all of this. Right, my ..."
Ruth interrupted him with a little cry:
"Wow! Thanks for your help. We'll take it and return it later."
Tuca, seeing Ruth's reaction to his help, was internally moved and filled with pride as he smiled at her saying:
"Sure you can take it."
After saying this, he started walking, thinking:
"With this great gesture she will love me soon."
After several steps, Tuca made a gesture to Ruth with his hand saying goodbye to her as he said:
"See you later. I hope you get back safely."
Ruth returns the gesture and Tursi begins to complain, telling her his friend:
"Who does he think he is? Do you think that for this detail he will have obtained points with you?"
Ruth answered thoughtfully:
"Mmmm good..."
But Tursi gets impatient and says:
"Well what? Don't tell me that with that gesture he managed to conquer you?"
Ruth, seeing that Tursi had not realized that she was only joking, she played along with him and, remaining thoughtful, she told him:
"Good for that detail? I don't know. But I do like what he did, I can't deny it. He was very kind."
Tursi, not hearing the answer she expected, got upset and said to Ruth in a nervous voice:
"But Ruth, what do you say? He only does it to conquer you and achieve his goal. When he does, you know he would do."
Ruth, making a surprised face, asks him:
"So what would he do? Tell me."
"Well, what would he do? He would be silly. He will say 'I love you' like a fool, 'I want you' like a fool and whatever else he says, he will say it and do it like a fool. Anyone. Whatever he does to a woman, he will do it like what he is, a fool. Like a fool. Like a fool. Like a fool ... "
Ruth interrupted him, unable to contain her laugh, saying:
"He would do everything like a fool, do you really think that?"
Tursi understood that Ruth was saying these things jokingly and she told him:
"Oh Tursi, you should already know that for that detail or any other that comes from Tuca, I will never marry him."
Ruth saw that she was approaching the chariot that Tuca had promised her and she hastened to ask her friend once more:
"So buddy, would you do everything like a fool?"
Tursi raising his hands and shaking her head, replied:
"Friend, what can you expect from someone like that? Exactly that! Nothing. Absolutely nothing."
After saying this, they both laughed when the float arrived and the silly man’s assistant gave them a hand to put all their belongings on the float. When everything was in place, the helper said goodbye and Ruth and her friend Tursi began their journey back home, laughing at everything that had happened during the day.
The secret of the vase
Almost arriving home, they found a small crowd of people who were waiting for Tursi, as they needed to fix some defective machines that they had. Ruth, seeing that everyone present was waiting for his friend, whispers to him:
"Now it's your turn to show your kindness to others, help them as I prepare the space to put the purchases in order."
Tursi, widening her eyes in amazement, rushes to answer Ruth without anyone else hearing:
"Aren't you going to help me with all these people?"
Ruth, giving him a little push with her waist, tells him, as he goes to the door of the house:
"Come on Tursi, show me that you are the best."
Tursi feeling flattered, accepts the challenge and addressing the crowd, he makes a gesture with his hand and says:
"Come. Let's go to my workshop where there is more light, it is about to get dark."
Everyone laughs out loud, because they know that that place has always been dark for decades because of darkness. Once in the workshop, Tursi helped them all by fixing each of their machines. From the largest to the smallest. Ruth finished unloading the carriage in the kitchen and was meditating about what he experienced in the town square with that white-haired man. Ruth could not get out of her mind the way that man looked her,she did not understand how an ordinary vagabond could put him through such an unusual experience.
When Tursi finished all the repairs, he entered the kitchen and saw Ruth somewhat distracted. Without saying a word to her, he continued into the living room and fell exhausted on the sofa. When he suddenly hears a sigh, it is his friend Ruth who sat next to him, because like him, she was tired from the long day they had had. Already lying on the sofa after a few minutes of silence, Ruth sighs wearily as she says to Tursi:
"Wow, it's really been a long day."
Tursi lying next to her, responds:
"Yes friend. It was a long day, but I want to show you something that I have always wanted to show you. I was waiting for you to be ready and now I think you are. You are no longer a child. I know you can keep the secret, it is very important."
Ruth looks at him with some mystery and amazement in his eyes asking:
"What is this great secret about?"
"Come, I'll show you. It'll blow your mind."
After saying this, Tursi gets up and waves for Ruth to hurry up. He encourages her:
"Come on, friend, go ahead."
Tursi leads Ruth to her invention room, which is full of science books, and he stops in front of a giant vase. This vase was made of clay, inside it had a not very common coconut palm. Ruth stares wondering what was so special about that, when Tursi interrupts her thought by saying:
"Don't be scared by what I'm going to do now, don't yell when you see what's going to come out of here either. Do you promise? Okay?"
Ruth, somewhat fearful, nodded her head, Tursi made a gesture that he would show her what all this was about. Tursi somewhat insecure says again:
"You already know you promised me. Then don't say that you are always affected by my inventions"
Ruth impatiently makes a gesture with her hand to hurry up and leave the mystery behind. When Tursi saw her, he laughs and takes one of the coconuts that hang from her palm, when he plucks it she made a noise. Ruth took two steps back, scared, but intrigued by what might happen. After a few seconds, the dirt from the garden began to slowly come out from all sides. Ruth did not understand what was happening, so she asked Tursi somewhat upset:
"Tursi, what is all this?"
Tursi without saying anything, made a sign for him to look. When Ruth took a good look at the ground, she saw a gray and white mole coming out of it. Seeing the mole's head, she got very scared and screamed loudly, as she ran out of the room without looking back. Tursi thought:
"As much as I told her, it was the first thing she did."
Tursi, being alone with her friend the mole, sees Ruth leaning at the door. And overcome by curiosity, she decides to enter. Tursi notices that she is nervous about the whole thing and begins to talk to his friend, his mole. Seeing that she got closer to him, she tells her:
"Come friend. It won't hurt you."
Ruth somewhat unsure, she approached a little closer to where Tursi and the mole were. When she was by her side, she said:
"This isn't one of your inventions, is it? It’s a giant mole!"
Tursi, noticing her amazement, felt proud and modestly replied:
"When have you seen a mole like this?"
Ruth, somewhat exalted, answers him:
"I've never seen anything like this in my life!"
Tursi:
"Well this is so you know that you have a very talented friend. This is one of my greatest achievements, I had never mentioned it to you, because I was waiting for the right moment and today it was."
Hearing this, Ruth remembered the words the white-haired man had said to her:
"Now you will meet yourself and see who you really are."
Tursi pulled her out of her thoughts saying:
"Hey hey! But where is your mind?"
Ruth:
"Sorry, I just remembered something."
Tursi:
"Let's see, what is it about?"
Ruth did not know how to explain it, so she ignored the question as she continued saying:
"Does the mole have a name?"
Tursi got excited again and forgot the question he had asked Ruth seconds ago. He was quick to reply:
"Yes! As I was trying to tell you, this is one of my greatest treasures. I call it Gray, because as you can see, it is this color. He and I have devised a plan for when the day of the great battle arrives. This plan will keep us safe. "
Ruth upon hearing the words 'Great battle', was frightened and asked:
"What great battle?"
Tursi saw the reaction of her friend of him and did not want to worry her by telling all the details about it and since her friend was a little restless, an idea occurred to him:
"Friend, don't listen to me. Do you want to take a walk with me?"
The whole matter of the great battle was out of his mind when Ruth heard the invitation to go for a walk. She looks at her friend talking to the mole and asks him:
"What kind of ride are you talking about?"
"You know, a ride on my friend Gray."
"On who?!"
"Yes my friend! Riding on him. We mount and descend all together towards ..."
Tursi had not finished speaking when Ruth interrupted him:
"Down? Underground?"
Tursi pointed to the mole and smiled:
"Yes friend, down. You know where the moles travel."
Ruth noticing the joking tone that Tursi had used to speak, she looked at him and gave him a half smile saying:
"I know where moles travel. I didn't mean that. What I want to know is if it is safe to go there."
When Tursi saw that her friend noticed it was a joke, he couldn't hold back laughing. He saw that Ruth was still waiting for an answer and said:
"It's okay, friend. It's okay. Don't worry. Trust me. We'll both ride the mole and i’ll guide us along the way. There's nothing to fear, it's very safe."
After a few seconds of silence, Tursi asks Ruth again:
"Tell me. Do you want to go or not?"
Ruth:
"It's okay but only because I trust you."
Hearing this, Tursi mounted on the mole and held out his hand for Ruth to climb up. When they were up, Tursi shouted:
"Hold on tight we're going full speed!"
Gray somehow understood that it was time to run and before Ruth could say anything else, the mole sped through the place at full speed, diving through the underground tunnels. As they traveled, Ruth admired the space. Other moles were seen peeking out from their hiding places and flashes of energy floating everywhere. Ruth was surprised to note that there was a large army of moles ready.
The longer the walk lasted, the more admiration she felt for her friend, for she could see that he was not as crazy as she sometimes thought and that he was a complete scientific magician. After several turns and shouts of joy, they returned to the room from which they had started. When they got off the mole, Tursi made a sick face that scared Ruth a bit:
"Oh no. I feel bad, I think I'm going to throw up.."
Before Tursi could finish speaking, he vomited all over the place. Ruth, seeing what was happening, ran so that he would not vomit her up. When Tursi finished, she went back to see the mess he had made. The whole place was dirty but especially the entrance of the mole, who got upset with Tursi and made another hole to leave. Already being alone, Ruth tells Tursi:
"I'm surprised. You are a true scientific wizard! A little crazy, but you are."
She decided to take Tursi to the bathtub because she saw him somewhat dirty and said:
"Take a shower and don't worry, I'll clean up what you made of it."
Tursi:
"Thanks, friend, I don't know what I would do without you."
When Tursi got into the shower, Ruth went to clean up the mess he had made, leaving everything very clean. After a few minutes, Ruth watches the gray mole poke its eyes out of the ground. When Ruth sees him, she says goodbye by retiring from the room, closing the door when she leaves. Unbeknownst to her, the mole stared where he was, thinking to himself that, like her friend Tursi of hers, Ruth also cared for the good of all who lived with him underground. The mole was very happy with what his new friend Ruth had done for him and went into hiding again.
Unexpected visits
Several hours later, Ruth takes a good bath and when she leaves her room, she sees Tursi who tells her:
"Do you need me to help you with dinner?"
Ruth:
"You mean you'll help me to eat it like you always do, right?"
"Well, I see you're in a good mood. Call me if you need me. Okay?
"Okay! I'll call you if i need something, okay?"
Tursi continued walking towards his room and Ruth continued to the kitchen. A few minutes later, it was heard as if a crowd were knocking on the front door of the house, it was a very loud and insistent noise. As the seconds passed, the noise increased. Ruth worried about so much noise, she went to the door shouting:
"I'm coming. Why all the fuss?"
When she opened the door expecting to meet a crowd of people, she was shocked. Instead of a crowd of people, there were her four cousins and her uncle. All of them equal to her father, mischievous. Each of them with their cargo bags on their backs, which they used to protect him. They all wore shorts, sandals, and shirts taped to another loose shirt.
They all looked the same, like they were clones. All with their faces covered by a beard and long hair but red curls, big noses, big eyes, without leaving behind their typical oval down style caps and the crossed straps that they wore on their chests, which had many rare metals. . All this did not worry Ruth, what disturbed her was what they carried in her hands. They had special instruments that they carried from side to side. Each had a different instrument. When the five saw Ruth, they shouted at the same time:
"Helloooo!"
And without waiting for any response, they began to sing while playing their musical instruments. Ruth upon hearing the horrendous song and the disharmony, she thought:
"Oh no. Look who they are, what I was missing."
Without making a disgusted face, she smiled reluctantly and clapped as if she enjoyed the music. Seeing that they did not stop singing and not wanting to disturb the neighbors, Ruth made a sign with her hand to enter the house and said:
"Come in. Welcome, what brings you here?"
Ruth closed the door and it didn't take long for Tursi, who was in her room, to hear all the commotion. He went out annoyed by the noise and found the party of Ruth's adoptive relatives. Tursi knowing they got like this, she pretended that she was glad to hear them play, clapping to the beat of the music. When Ruth saw Tursi, she approached him and said in a low voice:
"I think we're in big trouble, buddy."
Tursi answers her while both continue clapping:
"Are we? Did I hear what you said correctly? I think only you are in trouble, not me, they are your relatives."
Tursi tried to sneak back to his room, but Ruth took him by the hand pretending to dance with him and approaching his ear, she said:
"If I'm in trouble, you are too. You also told me that if I need your help I would call you. Now I do need your great help, friend."
Ruth makes a gesture with her head asking for help and Tursi, seeing that he had no escape, gives Ruth another turn and says:
"Okay, I'll help you because you are my friend and I love you."
When Tursi finished speaking, everyone in unison shouted:
"Yyyyy, Wuaaaaa!"
Ruth and Tursi, grateful that they finally stopped making noise, clapped with great joy, while they believed that they were applauding for their talent. They greeted as any artist would at a big event and one of the guys approached both of them asking:
"Did you like the song?"
Tursi for playing a joke on Ruth, replied:
"We did like it. What's more, your cousin loves that song."
Ruth immediately gave his friend a murderous look, but was interrupted by his cousin who said:
"Do you really like it a lot cousin?"
Ruth noticed that Tursi was laughing and without knowing what to answer, she replied:
"Well ... the truth is that ... it is ... Terrific."
The boy approaches his father, excited about him saying:
"See, Dad? I told you. I told you he would really like our music."
The father, listening to the emotion of his son, replied happily:
"Yes boy, that's right."
Ruth's uncle notices that out of love they were hiding reality from him and looks for a way to say something to her. When Tursi saw him approaching, he held back his chuckle and observed that the boys wanted to make noise again. But in a lower tone, the man took the opportunity to tell Ruth:
"I know you love my children, but we both know that music is horrendous. Are you honest? Tell me the truth."
Ruth:
"Man, it really is, but they are boys, they will learn and later they will be better."
After saying this to her uncle, Ruth comes over to greet her cousins. Tursi stayed in front of Ruth's Uncle and he asked him
"Are you really having fun?"
Tursi:
"Well the truth is ..."
Ruth's uncle interrupted him in an unpleasant voice:
"The truth is that our music is horrible, accept it."
Tursi:
"Yes it is, but as Ruth said, they are just children."
Ruth's uncle approaches Tursi giving her a squeeze and says:
"It's much better that way. It's better to be honest."
Tursi, barely able to breathe from the squeeze that Ruth's uncle was giving her, nodded her head. When he finally released him, he continued to tell him:
"Well, since you are a great scientific magician, do you think you can make us a better musical band for this beautiful world?"
Tursi, taking advantage of the fact that Ruth's uncle spoke to him about honesty, replied:
"Well now that you mention it, the truth is that since you said it right, I am a scientific wizard, that's true, but I'm not a god okay? You guys need a miracle from god to do it better."
Ruth's uncle was upset by the answer and said:
"Hey, friend, shut up. Too much honesty can hurt you, quietly you look better."
Ruth seeing from a distance what seemed like a long discussion between the two, interrupts his uncle saying:
"Permission. You must be hungry right?"
Ruth’s uncle:
"Well yeah, on second thought, we are hungry, right guys?"
"Yesssss", the children said.
"Well look, I happened to be preparing the food when you guys arrived. If you will allow me to finish, we could eat together as the big family that we are, okay?"
Ruth's uncle, who was very fond of eating, replied:
"Good idea, niece. We'll stay here to practice some more music with the boys while the food is ready."
Ruth signaled to Tursi to come help her. He goes with her to the kitchen while the others stay in the room making noise and Tursi says to Ruth:
"It was a good idea, I'd rather be here than in the room with all that noise they call music."
Ruth:
"At least by eating, they will have their mouths full and will not be able to sing."
They both laughed, while in the background horrendous songs were heard.
When they finished with dinner, Ruth and Tursi set the table and called in their visitors, who had already finished practicing their music. With a loud voice Ruth said:
"Come on everyone, dinner is ready!"
Hearing this, everyone sat at the table while Ruth served them food. After this, Ruth went to get the drinks, which was strange looking but good tasting. She had not finished serving it, when all the visitors were already eating. Ruth stared at them in surprise and her uncle thumped on the table scaring everyone. After a few seconds of awkward silence, the father tells his children:
"Listen everyone, let's remember that we are at Ruth's house, so we must eat politely. Let's eat with class, as I have taught you."
Then, as if by magic, Ruth's uncle and her children began to behave like professionals, putting towels on their skirts and napkins on their shirts. They took their utensils politely and ate calmly. When Ruth saw that, she marveled and made a sign to Tursi with her eyes, to see if he noticed the same as she did. Seeing Tursi return her gesture, she was overjoyed by the respectable manners of her visitors.
One of the children, seeing that Tursi had a face full of food, politely told him:
"Excuse me friend, but you have some food on your face."
Tursi, ashamed, replies:
"Thanks friend."
“You are welcome. Bon appetit."
While Tursi was looking for something to clean himself with, Ruth's uncle said with great pride:
"Did you see how I educated my sons?"
Ruth helped Tursi to clean herself, she replied:
"I see, man. They are very respectful and attentive."
When they finished eating, they prepared to get up from the table. Ruth took several plates but was interrupted by another of the boys who said:
"Dinner was delicious. I can't wait to see how dessert will be."
Ruth:
"Dessert? What is that?"
"Don't you know what a dessert is?"
The surprise that the child felt had him open-mouthed, so Ruth became impatient saying:
"I really don't know what a dessert is."
The uncle got up from the table, realizing that Ruth was feeling uncomfortable, when her son continued to complain about the matter:
"Dad, why don't you show my cousin what dessert is?"
Ruth's uncle, seeing that she was already angry, rushed to tell her:
"Ruth honey, dessert is something small but sweet that is eaten at the end of dinner to be totally satisfied."
Ruth:
"Ahh that's it? Is it like a cupcake or a cake or something like that? Right?"
The child:
"Yeah, that's right. Dad always gives us one since we learned to eat with class."
When Tursi saw that they were talking about cakes, he was moved and said:
"Good! I just fixed my cake ball maker. I know you guys will like them very much."
Child:
"Do you really have a machine capable of making cakes?"
Tursi:
"Well isn't that what I just said? Yes, I have a machine that I created to make cake balls."
Ruth upon hearing the whole cake pellet machine thing, she is startled and yells:
"NO!"
Ruth's Uncle, giving a little jump of fright, says:
"But what's wrong with you? No. What?"
Ruth responds that she had exaggerated a bit with her reaction:
"Sorry man, the balls are almost ready, so give me a few minutes and I'll bring them."
Tursi stared at her friend somewhat confused, because he knew she was lying to them. Ruth, noticing this, hastened to tell him:
"Tursi come with me to the kitchen to give the last details to the cake balls."
When they both enter the kitchen, Tursi asks Ruth confused:
"I don't understand. Why are you lying to them? I haven't turned on the machine yet. How the cakes will be ready?"
"That's why I said all that, imagine taking them to your machine and when you turn it on it go crazy like they did with me, making us look ridiculous in front of them. So don't be angry and help me prepare the cupcakes quickly, another time when we are sure that the machine will not go crazy, we will show it to them. Okay, dear friend.
When she finished saying this, Ruth smiled very affectionately at Tursi, who returned her and said:
"Be fine, friend. I'll help you."
After several minutes of waiting, Tursi and Ruth return to the dining room with a plate full of cake balls. When the children saw how delicious they looked, they rushed to sit at the table and wait for one to be delivered. They ate them and there was only praise for how delicious they were.
"This is delicious. I think we could both start a great cake ball company. With that machine we would be famous."
Hearing this, Ruth nearly choked on the last bite of her cake and is quick to say:
"Well, that would be another day, because today they came for a family visit not to do business, right?"
Tursi, knowing why Ruth was saying this, helped her by saying:
"I think Ruth is right, we'll talk about it another time."
"See guys? I think your father will be famous soon. He will be an entrepreneur in the baking industry."
"Yes Dad! Yes Dad!"
When Ruth's uncle saw that she was cleaning the table, he got up and gesturing to her children, he said:
"I think it's late and tomorrow will be another day. We must go and greet the kings of darkness and their guests. Tomorrow will be a very busy day. We have to go."
Ruth said goodbye to each of them, while Tursi was busy with her book. Finally, she approaches her uncle who says:
"Beautiful, take good care of yourself and take good care of your pet."
Tursi, realizing that she was referring to him, answered annoyed:
"Your grandmother's pet. I am her friend."
When the man hears the answer, he gets very angry and looks for an object to hit him, but he bumps into Ruth, even though he doesn't fall. Taking advantage of this, Ruth stands firm at the door to prevent him from entering again. The uncle, seeing that she is in the middle of it, says:
"Let me in to teach your pet not to mess with my grandmother."
"Uncle, enough is enough, you were the one who offended him first. You know that he is not my pet, he is my friend. And please stop fighting, don't you see that the children are seeing everything? Behave."
Despite that, her uncle keeps babbling, saying:
"You are his pet, you are his pet!"
Tursi teased him back:
"Your grandmother, your grandmother!"
Ruth, seeing that they both behaved like children, closed the door and went to her room tired of so much nonsense. Tursi followed her and standing at the door, as it was open, he saw his friend Ruth lying on the bed. Ruth seeing him says:
"Well done, Tursi. No one has ever made fun of my uncle like that or lived long enough to tell about it. So take care, because he will find a way to get revenge on you."
Tursi, seeing that Ruth said these things that seriously, he looked at her thoughtfully. Ruth spoke again after a few minutes:
"It's time to sleep, I'm very tired. You should rest too and think about what you are going to do with my uncle. Please, close the door when you leave."
Tursi, noticing that she was out of sleep, closed the door and thought:
"And now what will I do with your uncle?"
As she thought, he walked into her room. He put his science book on a large desk and said firmly with a wicked laugh:
"I will make a great protective shield against Ruth's uncle!"
After listening to himself, he laughed that he was talking to himself. He looked both ways across his room, recognizing that there was no place safer than his own room. He went to bed because he, like Ruth, was also very tired. Once in bed, he imagined himself carrying his great shield and Ruth's uncle very ashamed for not being able to do anything against him. With that thought he closed his eyes and fell asleep while he smiled.
The power of the books
After a very long day, Ruth and Tursi slept like babies. At the end of the morning, Ruth felt little things moving all over the place. Alarmed by this, she begins to scream:
"Tursi! Tursi!"
Tursi, hearing the screams, ran to Ruth's room. As he opened the door, he was surprised to see his friend Ruth surrounded by lots of little toads throughout the room. There were toads in the bed, on the floor, in the dressers and even inside the shoes. When Ruth knew that they were toads, she threw the ones on the bed to the ground, while she shouted to Tursi:
"But what have you done now? Look how I am full of little toads!"
Tursi:
"But friend, I have not done anything!"
Ruth:
"Nothing ?! Ahh, get them out of here. Now!"
Tursi, seeing Ruth so upset, took one of the toads from her and speaking to it in a language they understood, said:
"You are scaring my friend Ruth, please go back to the secret place."
After he said that, all the little toads went to the bathroom jumping up and down and one by one they got into the toilet. When everyone had left, Tursi said to Ruth laughing:
"I thought nothing scared you."
Ruth, noticing that he was making fun of her, threw her pillow at him saying:
"Well, nothing scares me, except getting up in my dark room, surrounded by thousands of toads jumping everywhere and making strange noises."
Then, they both looked at each other and laughed at what had happened.
"Well, enough of this nonsense. I think we owe my uncle a visit and I know that the visit will make him so happy, that maybe he will forget the discussion he had with you yesterday."
Tursi looked at Ruth and said with a confused face:
"But friend, aren't the kings of darkness supposed to come today?"
Ruth replied laughing:
"It is not today, it is a day like today but the next week."
"Next week?"
"Yes it is."
"But then why did your uncle say it was today?"
"And from when do you listen to what my uncle says? You know that he is hard of feeling, maybe he said that as a pretext to leave."
When Ruth said that, Tursi began to make movements with his hands imitating her uncle and without him noticing her, Ruth got up from the bed and tickled him to annoy him. Tursi died of laughter, he says:
"Let go of me, let go of me!"
"Well, stop clowning around, that’s why now we have to go there to visit him."
Tursi calmed down, catching his breath and responds to Ruth something annoying:
"Is it my fault?"
Ruth:
"Don't do it. If you hadn't gotten into a fight with him, we wouldn't be in this mess."
Tursi:
"But he started."
Ruth:
"I know, but you should know by now that it takes two to fight."
Tursi:
"I don't know if that's true, I think there are those who fight with themselves."
Ruth continues by saying:
"Stop being rude. You know he only seeks a fight to make you angry and after the fight, he knows that we will visit him to fix things."
Tursi stared at Ruth as if he was not fully convinced of what she had said. Ruth seeing his face, looks at him with a tender smile and says gently:
"I know you don't get along with my uncle, but I don't want to make that trip alone. Could my great friend be good to me and accompany me on such a long journey?"
Tursi, seeing how Ruth looks at him with tenderness and that her soft words please him, nodded his head. Ruth gives him a big hug saying:
"Will you really do it for me?"
Tursi:
"Yes. Just for you."
"That's why I love you so much. Let's get ready, it will be a long journey."
They both went to bathe and prepare everything for the trip. After a while, Tursi looks for Ruth to ask her where the torches are stored, because Ruth's uncle lives far away in an immense forest. Upon reaching the room, the door is open and he saw Ruth dressed while she commented laughing:
"Friend, you look like a warrior."
"You know how awful the forest is where my uncle lives. Better to be prepared. Are you done? Are you ready?"
"No. The only thing I'm missing is the torches. Do you know where they are?"
Ruth:
"I spent them in the fool's float."
Tursi:
"What was missing, are we going to take the fool's float? I don't think it will be useful to us, because the path is made of wood and I don't think it will last in the forest."
Ruth:
"Tursi, Tursi, no. I just feel sorry for the fool and maybe he needs the cart and just to be good to me he lent it to us."
Tursi:
"But the fool's shop is not on the way to the forest."
Ruth:
"But it's not very far either. Besides, that way we could buy that fruit that you like so much."
Tursi thought of his favorite fruit and replied:
"Hmmm ok. Come on. But be quick, you know it makes me sick to be around him."
When they had everything ready, they began their journey to the market. They arrived at the fool's shop and his mother came out to meet them:
"What a great surprise! How is my future daughter-in-law?"
Ruth wanting to get out of the chariot matter as quickly as possible, she decides to ignore her comment by telling her:
"Good morning. I have come to return the float. Thank you very much for letting me use it. It was very useful to me."
"Anything for my future daughter-in-law!"
Tursi finishing emptying the chariot, says to Ruth:
"Everything is ready."
Hearing him, the lady hastens to tell them:
"Stay a little longer! My son would love to see you."
"We can't. We're going to visit my uncle! And the road is too long."
"I don't know how your uncle can live in that forest so far away."
Ruth took advantage of the fact that the lady called an employee to take the cart and they began to walk saying:
"See you later. Thanks for the wagon!"
The lady hastens to tell her from afar:
"But wait!"
Seeing that Ruth continued on her way, she regretted that she could not get her to stay a while longer until her son returned. Giving up, she continued with her chores while Ruth and Tursi got much further away from her.
"I think we did it."
Tursi:
"Yeah, good, now we can go get my fruit."
Ruth:
"Yes. That's right, my good friend."
After a long walk, they reached the outskirts of the forest. It looked darker than they could remember. To top it off, a large eagle was flying over them. Everything looked so dark that Ruth and Tursi were afraid, but they tried to be strong and invincible. Ruth, breaking the silence, tells Tursi:
"Shall we enter?"
Ruth:
"That is why we come or do you plan to return after such a long journey?"
Tursi:
"You're right. Come on let's move on."
Without saying more words, they both entered the dark forest path. As they walked, they could see how the branches of the hideous trees fell to the ground making a very peculiar noise, which made the moment more gloomy. Despite this, they continued to be strong but at the same time, they tried to walk as fast as possible. The terror was so immense that no one dared to speak. They were afraid that there would be some hidden beast and attack them for making noise. The more they walked, the more their fears increased.
Tursi could not move forward because of the fear he felt, so they both decided to stop. When Ruth saw that her friend was not moving, she asked in a low voice:
"Tursi. Tursi. Are you okay?"
Tursi:
"Yes, but I don't recognize anything. Are you sure this is the way?"
Ruth:
"I can barely recognize things, but I am sure we are on the right way."
Tursi:
"Well, whatever you say. Let's move on."
Ruth:
The talk eased the tension they felt a bit, but suddenly, a strong wind came out of nowhere, extinguishing each other's torches. They both screamed in fright.
"Where are you, Tursi?"
Tursi:
"I'm here! I'm here!"
After a few seconds, their eyes adjusted to the lack of light and Ruth could see where Tursi was, she took her hand with great force and said:
"We can handle this. Let's do it together."
They tried to follow the path in the dark, but they felt that they had lost the trail, when suddenly Ruth hears Tursi's voice telling her:
"We can handle this together. Have confidence, we can do it."
Tursi took the book out of him and under the darkness that there was, he found what he needed. Curious, Ruth asked him with a low voice:
"What are you doing? What are you looking for?"
"I'm looking for something to help us find our way."
"I have an idea, find something to help us light these torches. With some light, I think I can find my way."
"Very well thought out. I know what will help us."
Tursi, despite knowing what he needed, the darkness and the noises of the night did not help him to find them quickly. Ruth, seeing that this was delayed, became impatient saying:
"Do you or don't you?"
"Calm friend, it is very dark and the strange noise of the branches is distracting me."
Ruth:
"Forgive me friend, this darkness is worse than waking up surrounded by thousands of jumping little toads in broad daylight."
Saying this, they both laughed, but full of nerves. Despite that, Ruth's comment helped both of them calm down a bit, enough for Tursi to find what they needed.
"I found it!"
And without wasting any more time, he spoke in a language Ruth did not understand. And then, taking two spheres out of his bag, he said:
"Burning flame."
After saying this, the two balls began to shoot sparks of fire. Ruth said very excited:
"Look! Look! It's working!"
Tursi:
"Let's blow! Let's blow!"
The sparks kept growing and growing, but because of the fear in their hearts, they went out. At that moment they were strengthened and an inner security came to them, Tursi took the spheres again and repeated:
"Burning flame."
He threw the spheres forward several meters and said to Ruth:
Go back, this is going to be great. "
And then he took a special explosive fuse and threw it to the place where the spheres were seconds ago. The spheres that previously flashed sparks were now a blazing flame of fire. So fiery that Ruth and Tursi turned away from her to be on the safe side. When the fire touched the explosive fuse, a flash of light filled the place completely. After a few seconds the glow, the explosion of light was gone and they could see the two burning torches illuminating much of the forest. Both astonished at what happened said very excited:
"Wow! That was great!"
Between laughter and laughter they took the torches. Ruth recognized some rocks that marked the end of the forest and the beginning of the plain. The only thing that could be seen was the plain and a large tree with a small house under it. And a small light that distilled from that house. Ruth excitedly announced to Tursi:
"I told you that with some light we would find our way."
Tursi:
"Are you sure it's here?"
Ruth:
"Yes I am. I remember recently he told me that his tree had grown a lot and that he liked his new valley, because that way he could see from afar anyone who approached his house"
Tursi:
"Well, if you're so sure, come on then, let's move on."
Ruth:
"Let's keep going."
Already being both halfway, they heard a noise like a sharp shriek that came from the heights, scared they begin to wave their torches from one side to the other in order to know where the noise was coming from. After hearing it again, Ruth shouted to Tursi:
"We have to run! I think it's a hungry bird and we'll be its food if we don't move on!"
Both without saying more words, they ran off when they felt the bird's flapping pass them at full speed. Tursi, seeing that the bird was rising to launch itself towards them, says to Ruth:
"I did see it. I saw it. It's a bird and I think it's coming for us again. When I tell you to lie down, do it. Okay?"
Ruth nodded and looked around for the bird, but she couldn't see anything. After a few seconds of silence, Tursi yells:
"Now!"
Saying this, both of them throw themselves to the ground feeling a gust of wind pass over them, but without touching them. When Ruth looked up from her, she could see the bird moving away from them. They both continued to do this, until they approached a large rock that was very close to the house. The stone wouldn't save them from the bird but at least it gave them a few seconds to try to think of how to escape from it. Ruth mentions Tursis:
"I think if we stay here, that little bird will not be able to attack us from above and we will be able to find what to do to defend ourselves."
Tursi:
"Little bird you say? But what are you talking about? That is not a 'little bird', it is a flying assassin. That 'little bird' as you call it, will eat us in pieces and feed its chicks too, so we must continue running, this place is not safe. "
Ruth when she saw that her friend was going to start running, grabs him by the arm and very angry told him:
"You stay with me here. If we die, we will die together. We will die giving that little animal a good fight. So think about something other than running."
Tursi realizesd that it was not time to give up and that his friend was right:
"Okay, friend. I love you and never forget that always ...."
While he was saying this, a noise was heard so loud from heaven, that noise did not let Ruth hear what Tursi was saying, she without having understood, asked:
"What did you say?"
Tursi managed to get out of her grasp and ran off at full speed, while he continued telling her:
"I always told you to ruuuuuunnnnn !!!"
The bird, seeing that Tursi ran, went behind him, ignoring Ruth. She wss afraid that the bird would take her friend, she yells at the bird:
"Bad bird! Wild! Leave us alone!"
The bird of course did not understand what she meant, but at least she distracted him enough for Tursi to get to Ruth's uncle's house. The animal now looked more upset than before, it began to cry and Ruth hid in the rock thinking:
"I should have listened to Tursi. I should have run with him."
Seeing that the bird was coming again, she hid and almost grabbed it but she couldn't. She, seeing that the bird flew high, decides to run away while she screamed in fear:
"Tursi! Tursi! Friend, wait for me don't leave me here."
Tursi, seeing that his friend left without thinking, made a sign with his hands for her to stop. But when he noticed that the bird saw her come out of the rock, he made another signal for her to run. Ruth was much more scared and without noticing her, she stumbled and when she fell to the ground, she felt that the bird passed over her at full speed. This time she could feel her claws up close.
Ruth got up from the ground and, to her surprise, the animal took a turn that she did not like. With no other options she tried to return to the rock but it was too late. The bird took it in its claws and flew very high. Ruth's screams could be heard throughout the valley saying:
"Let me go, Let me go! Bad bird let me go!
Tursi looked terrified without knowing what to do, he tried to use his spheres but nothing worked. He was very scared. Ruth got tired of screaming and noticed that the bird hadn't hurt her and she didn't stop circling over her uncle's house either. When he at the moment he hears the unmistakable laughter of all his cousins, who, greeting her with their hands, say:
"Hello cousin! Hello! Are you having fun?"
Ruth between surprised, relieved and still somewhat scared by what happened, being still in the heights, she responds:
"Cousins! What a surprise and this way of receiving me? They almost scared me to death."
Hearing this, everyone laughed louder. Ruth, a little more relieved, says to her uncle:
"Well man, you had fun already right? Now let's go home, okay? I'm getting dizzy from being so high."
"Dear niece! You would have seen your pet's face running away!"
Without saying more words, a slight silence made Ruth's uncle understand that it had been enough. He caused the bird to descend and leave Ruth on the ground. They stopped later and very still and obedient, the animal lay down on the grass. When Tursi saw that it was Ruth's uncle, he was angry at the joke, but his friend signaled him not to say anything bad. When suddenly, Ruth's uncle breaks the silence by saying to Tursi:
"Well, well, I really didn't imagine it would be so funny. If I could just show you how they made their faces."
He made an imitation of their faces, while all of his children laughed nonstop. Tursi felt that he was about to explode with anger and told them:
"Well, if we talk about ugly faces, your face is like the face that has a ..."
Ruth, seeing that Tursi was going to start a fight, hastened to interrupt him saying:
"... a cheerful and funny person."
And gesturing to Tursi not to say anything bad, she continued saying:
"You really cheated on us, man."
Ruth’s uncle:
"I told you guys, I'm a great joker."
Tursi hearing this, muttered:
“You mean bad jokes."
Ruth's uncle, seeing that Tursi was not as happy as his niece, tried to make him laugh, since he owed his one.
"Well we're done for now. How about we go inside? You must be tired from running and running."
And without saying anything else, they entered the house while some of the children caressed the bird and gave it a special sandwich. Seeing that her son did not enter, Ruth's uncle told him from within:
"Junior let the bird go and get in now! You know I don't like that any of you are out at this time."
Without saying a word, Junior whistled and the bird began to fly off the horizon. When they were all inside, Ruth's uncle says while he laughs:
"Run, run"
Ruth:
"But we did that because we didn't know it was you! They gave us a tremendous scare."
Ruth's uncle, seeing that Tursi was not very sure of feeling safe, calls him and says:
"Hey you, scientific wizard. You have nothing to fear anymore. We are your friends, right guys?"
"Yes father, they are our friends."
The man saw that the children had responded jokingly, turned and looked at Ruth and Tursi intently saying:
"I mean this to you, your friends are my friends and your enemies are my enemies, never doubt that."
Tursi hearing this, felt safe. Ruth's uncle's gaze was unmistakably real and honest.
"Thanks man, it's good to know that we can count on you."
Tursi:
"Okay. But don't scare us anymore like that with that bird."
Everyone laughed, including Ruth. Tursi, seeing that his friend was laughing too, joined them, leaving behind the tension of what happened outside the house.
